Growing Leadership, Together
Rev. Michelle, Lead Minister
Michelle grew up in the United Church of Canada and loves its commitment to diversity, seeking justice and nurturing community for all. For almost 20 years, she has been leading growing churches. Every day, Michelle helps people to know and experience the unconditional love of God, to grow as followers of Jesus, and to change the world together. Michelle loves the stories and traditions of the Bible and is good at exploring and sharing how these ancient stories have life and meaning , challenge and comfort, for us today. She loves to sing, read murder mysteries, quilt, wear funky shoes, and play with her husband and son.

Amy, Music Minister
At the age of 6, Amy van Wensem would spend hours in her bedroom listening to choir classics with a cassette player under the covers. She knew, even then, that she was addicted to those transcendent moments that happen in worship and communal song. Now a grown-up with a grown-up music degree and teaching certificate, Amy continues to cherish music and its transformational power in our lives. She and her husband, Casey, have been called to lead music through out the usual United Church haunts (First Met in Victoria, Naramata, First United Church in Kelowna); she also is passionate about honouring other denominations and their views of the Spirit. Outside of work, Amy also has a fiery toddler (red haired but also full of personality) and a rescue dog that climbs trees. She and her family are excited to call Oak Bay United home.

Zach has a youthful spirit and combines contemplative practices with humour to facilitate a joyful and caring community. Outside of Zach’s church and legal work he enjoys cycling, singing, video games, and spending time with his wife and cat.
