The ministry of Oak Bay United Church has always been rooted in a love of scripture and a commitment to study of the Word that guides and shapes us. Our passion for discipleship has been nurtured and sustained by a profound understanding of servant leadership. We walk our journey with open hearts, daring to care, and seeking to serve the needs of our community.

Our congregation is committed to living as a community of spiritually passionate and compassionate people. We seek to deepen our connection with God as Creator, Christ and Spirit, to love our neighbour and to participate in our communities. We seek to be rooted in the deep joy and gratitude for the goodness of life, sharing this gift of faith with others. We seek to engage in meaningful, purpose-driven ministry that makes a difference in our lives and the world.

Our Call

We have experienced the theological challenge of “wandering in the wilderness”. This journey has deepened our spiritual roots and given us the gifts of determination, resilience, commitment and solid faith in the God who guides and inspires us. Our time of wandering in the wilderness has taught us to rely on the grace and abundance of God whose promises will be fulfilled. Our “wilderness” has given us a greater and more urgent sense of call and has challenged us to be clear about what really gives meaning to our lives. Living in the wilderness has given us a new identity and presence that is defined primarily by the quality of our relationships with each other and with all of creation through our mission and ministry.

Based upon the belief there is a spiritual longing felt by many in the world that is yet to be fulfilled, Oak Bay United Church is called to touch the hearts of people who seek to be disciples of the way of Christ.

The gospel call of Christ is to “make disciples”. Disciples are people who encounter the power of God, develop their relationship with God, align all aspects of their lives with their faith, discern and develop their spiritual gifts, participate in community and offer themselves for service.

Our call to nurture the spiritual development of those who seek, our call to provide place for all who seek sacred time and space, rises from our own experience of the wilderness.

Our facility is our focal point for mission a place where people are educated, equipped, trained and empowered to live their call as disciples in the world.
