Nurturing the Spirit at the heart of Oak Bay
We’re a Christian community eager to share God’s hospitality. It's a hospitality that embraces you as you are, regardless of age, culture, gender, marital status, orientation, the state of your bank book, or the state of your faith. You are welcome.
Worship & Song
10-11:15 am, every Sunday
Your first time, or your hundredth, your presence makes a difference
Oak Bay United Church, in Victoria BC, makes space every Sunday morning for sacred story, prayer, reflection and programs for children and youth. Your presence matters, and every Sunday the community is shaped by your being here - the first time, and every time.
What to expect at Sunday Worship & Song
People will come in comfortable clothing - some in dress clothes, some in jeans.
Greeters will welcome you at the door and offer you the Sunday Worship Sheet. You'll be invited you to sit anywhere you like. Chatting and movement in the Sanctuary is welcome, and so is sitting quietly.
Families, young children, infants, toddlers, elders - people of all ages! - are equally welcome in the Sanctuary and all areas of the church. Infants and toddlers, and their adults may chose to enjoy the Sanctuary Nursery whenever they need.
The worship service includes: songs and hymns, hearing the stories of our faith, silent and spoken prayers, a sermon, offering time, and a few announcements towards the end of the service. We start with about 20 minutes of everyone gathered together, and then children and youth are invited to join age-specific programs lead by our Children & Youth ministry team. Children and youth are also very welcome to chose to remain with their adults for the full service.
Communion, also known as the Lord's Supper or Eucharist, is usually celebrated on the first Sunday of each month. In the United Church of Canada, all are invited and welcome to receive Communion, for it is God's table, not our table - and there is a place for every person at it.
Baptism is celebrated during a usual Sunday service following a meeting between Rev. Michelle and the person requesting baptism.
Fellowship after worship
Community continues with you and for you, over hot and cold drinks in the Community Hall (downstairs) with lots of space to sit, chill and connect.
Welcoming you to Worship & Song, every Sunday
Sacred story, prayer, reflection, and age-specific programs for children and youth every Sunday at 10am! Oak Bay United is the red brick church just up from Oak Bay Avenue, located at the corner of Granite & Mitchell Streets, in Victoria BC.
We are honoured to gather on the traditional and unceded territory of the Lekwungen people, especially the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations who, for many thousands of years and to this day, have sought to walk gently on this land. We seek a new relationship with the Original Peoples of this land, one based in honour and deep respect.
Oak Bay United Church Sanctuary and Community Hall is located on the corner of Granite & Mitchell Streets, with the Church Office in the white house located behind the main church building.
Oak Bay United is wheelchair and stroller accessible, and has elevator access to the Sanctuary via the ground level entrance to the left of the main curved stairs at the front of the church building.
Please park in the church parking lot first, then overflow to the neighbourhood streets, for all services and events at Oak Bay United.
