SHARING THE LOVE

WELCOME TO
THE THRIFT SALE MINISTRY

Oak Bay United's Thrift Sale is a ministry of the Church, staffed by volunteers who value the relationships they develop through their work, and making an important contribution to the whole community.

The sale runs on Fridays from 10am-1pm in the big hall, and from 9-11:30 in the parking lot, except on stat holidays.

Some of the community and global agencies the Oak Bay Thrift Shop & Annex support are:
• Our Place Society
• Burnside Gorge Housing Outreach Program
• Threshold Housing Society
• Refugee Families
• Compassion Resource Warehouse
• Referrals from VIHA

Please park in the church parking lot or in available public parking spaces around the church on Granite Street or Oak Bay Avenue. Respecting our neighbours, by not blocking or parking in their driveways and by parking legally, goes a long way to us having their support. Please avoid parking on Mitchell Street as it has very limited parking due to most of the street being marked yellow (no parking).

We are only able to offer very limited pick up on Wednesdays and it may be several weeks before pick up is available. Deliveries for a fee may be arranged; speak to someone at the sale on Friday.

Thrift is closed on Statutory Holidays

OAK BAY THRIFT
MISSIONS & VALUES

As an outreach ministry of Oak Bay United Church, the Thrift/Annex affirms its mission, purpose and values. We are dedicated volunteers: who find meaning and joy in helping others with care, dignity, and patience; who value the relationships we develop; and who make an important contribution to the wider community.

Mission: With optimism and joy, helping our local and global community flourish

Through our work:

  • We care for our community by providing affordable, good quality items.

  • We care for our environment, and practise good stewardship, by reducing useful items going to landfill, and maximizing recycling (cardboard, electronics, metals, textiles, etc.)

  • We care for our global community by actively supporting and working with partner agencies.

  • We are inclusive when we assist refugee families, customers of all ages, and people referred for assistance; and when we include volunteers regardless of their abilities, sexual orientation, nationalities, languages etc.

  • We value and support our volunteers, providing them a tangible purpose and meaningful way to help others. Volunteers are supported to try new ways and opportunities to live out our values and principles.

  • We encourage respectful, positive working and personal relationships among volunteers and with customers

  • We support our community’s anti-racism and reconciliation efforts

  • We support the life and work of the congregation financially
